How much did you spend on your x5? Maybe cut and run. With these cars, people should have a mechanic check them before buying them. I didnt and I have spent over $5K in one year repairing my 2001 4.4i with 89K miles. I won't even say what I paid for the bitch. I am ashamed...

Same story over here...I paid $10.000 canadians for the X '00 and about the same to get an engine swapped and tranny rebuilt.well..here in Canada in our region you don't see many of these...either way they were here for around 18-20 grands...
People get rid of them only if they feel that it's gonna fall apart...
If I had money for a new X I would buy one,but since I don't,I don't really mind to put some money in for repairs.

I paid about 17k for mine w/ 79k miles. I've only had to replace the alternator so far (long story), but this spring she's going to get the full cooling system overhaul, intake manifold swap from a pre-VANOS car, and another tranny flush before she hits 100k. I knew what I was getting into when I got X since my 740iL has the same motor. If I wasn't a BMW mech, I personally don't know if I would have ever bought another BMW after my M5...that thing gets ABUSED and runs like a champ w/o ONE complaint.

I read on Wiki that older pre vanos manifold gives more breath increasing the power on high rpms....is that confirmed?

Yes, many member on the 5/7 forums w/ 99+ cars have been doing it for a long time. It's actually the same part $$Dinan$$ sells for $1200 god D#$% dollars. X5 Series*::*X5 4.4i (E53) 2000-2006*::*Engine Tuning*::*High Flow Intake Manifold (Thru 03) I got mine from another Bimmerforums member for $50 shipped. Just an FYI for those reading this, if you goto www.realoem.com and compare the part numbers...it's actually the same intake manifold already on the 4.6is' stock. I had a post somewhere stating all the models you could get this intake from, but I don't remember the thread.

I'm considering waiting till I take another trip back to Seattle to find an AWD dyno so I can do before and after for my own sake instead of relying on my (accurate, mind you) butt dyno.
