Window Actuators Poll - How many?

How many have you gone through (replaced)?

Another one of mine broke today, that makes 3. One more and I'll be perfect.

When I got mine, driver's rear was broken. Had two more replaced under aftermarket warranty (formerly known as Warranty Direct)

Two in the rear of the 7, none in the X5. I did remove and do MrBMWX5's repair on the passenger front of the X when I had the door panel off, I have yet to do the other 5 doors (including the 7). Just yesterday I bought a 50 pack of BMW door clips from ebay for $11 so I can replace any that I break.

well we're tied up right now then in a contest that I don't want to win.

I know there's many more out there, the question is how many more?

Why...we already know it's an issue, so what are you trying to find out?

Got any pics of the SV? I've got a TLR.

I replaced 4 in my '01 (since retired). The ironic thing was that it wasn't 4 as in all 4 windows, the driver door broke twice. I started at the driver door, then 3 months later did the passenger rear, then 6mon for the driver rear, and then back to the driver front in another 4 mon. Got quite quick at it...

I sold the car to a girl who works at my office 2 years ago with 95k miles. She has since put another 15k on it (drives very little) and has had no reg problems (fortunately).

There have been discussions on other threads in regards to rebuilding or where people have purchased them, ebay vs some BMW specific online stores, etc. Where were you purchasing yours?

At the stealership. Probably not the best place, but it is only a few miles from my house and when a window is stuck half down (or half up to the optimistic) it made sense. I think I paid just over $100 for each.

Initially, I was trying to find out how much extra money BMW was making off us by poorly manufacturing these actuators in the first place but after reading several of these threads I have another question.

Are window actuators destined to go out or does it have something to do with the owners window rolling technique?

I saw a few that said none have gone out and on some other threads I read where one guy had 12 go out. What's the difference between these two situations? Did the guy that had 12 go out get 12 bad actuators or is there a difference between the way he treats his window switches than the people that have had none go out? My wife drives mine now and I know she doesn't use any special care to the way she rolls up/down her windows and this is the 3rd one to go out.

Conversly, my lexus hasn't had any go out and she drove that car for about 150K now.

In summation, is it the actuator destined to fail or is it our button technique that helps them fail?
