Fortunately the X hasn't had a problem and they kids are older now, I just wish I could find that damn door glass rattle. I've seen threads for it on here, but I don't recall if it has something to do w/ the regulators being loose or something else.

I hate each and every one of you!!!! (lol) I got home from work this afternoon and without even touching the switch, my passenger-side rear window was down about an inch. When I went to put it up...you guessed it.
Anyway, add another one to my tally (3). |

Wow, I feel bad for my post now
You should apply MrBMWX5's repair to each regulator before anymore fail. I've got a busy maintenance schedule myself this weekend of fiberglassing and installing my modified stock sub enclosure, wiring in a complete navi/bluetooth/dvd system and pulling each and every door panel to replace any broken clips and reinforcing the other 3 regulators.

on the originals with 105K miles on my 03. Borrowed time. Down 1 on my S4 already - wasn't too hard to replace it - couple hours, next time will be 90min or less.

OK, well here's a theory, we all know that plastics deteriorate when exposed to extremes when it comes to temperature - hot & cold. Well, an interesting question would be whether those without failures have their X's parking in a garage overnight and weekends? If most of those that have failed window regulators have X5's that are parked outside in extremely cold climates or very high heat during the day could explain a few things. Our X has 97K miles is garaged and we've never had a regulator failure (knock on wood), and the truck has obviously been driven since we have nearly 100K miles on her. Just a thought?

I guess mine could qualify for the severe temperture swings...I lived 7 years in Chicago with the vehicle outside for most of those. Between the winters and summers that's a potential 100+degree temp swing. Now in San Antonio for 18 months with high summer temps.
Not having a garage in Chicago, I was also subjected to the cronic door cable freezing experienced in the eariler model years. One day after a freezing rain I popped both the driver and passenger door cable. Luckily there was a indie repair shop a block away as I had to drive while holding both doors shut manually... |
