Avic-z110bt w/ stock amp + speakers
Hi all,
I've searched all over for the answer to this question and can't seem to come up with any specific details on how to implement. I want to install my beautiful new AVIC head unit but don't want to really mess with anything else at the moment. Here's what I've been able to gather thus far. 1) get a harness 2) use harness at radio in trunck - is there a harness for the front? Or do I need to tap into wires? 3) since the tuner is unplugged at this point, how and where do tap into the amp? 4) Do I need to run an antenna extension cable to the front of the car for the new unit? Many thanks!!

I have the same headunit sitting in my kitchen ready to be installed.
The first question is whether your OEM radio is DSP or not? |

Yes, it's DSP. But not the type that has the 1 cable going to the amp. I think it may be an older version of DSP prod year is 1/2002.

I ordered a radio thru crutchfield and it came w a free kit and harness adapter, and antenna adapter. I have premium sound w dsp. Took out the business cd player and MID and used the antenna adapter and harness and face kit. There was another harness for u if u wanted to keep the factory amp in, and also factory volume controls on steering wheel it was extra, i added external amps so i bypassed the factory amp, therefore i did not get it, but they sell that harness...I would call crutchfield and get the antenna adapter for sure u need that and ask them...

OK..thanks everyone. Here's where things are at:
1) Unit arrives tomorrow via Fed Ex 2) Antenna adapter - on way 3) Antenna 12' extension - on way 4) BMW harness - on way 5) PAC LOC - on way 6) Back up camera - do I have to use a Pioneer cam? At this point the question I have is do I use the harness up front (recall I had OE nav display) or in the back where OE tunner connection is? Or do I just hack off the connectors up front and go with "trial and error" until I get somewhere? Thanks again everyone...will have some pics once the project commences.

So I have the Nav up front and looks like several wires for sending audio the rear of the car. Anyone know if there is a bundle of wires somewhere up front or something? I wanted to use the existing wiring and avoid having to tear out the entire interior just to run a couple output cables.

I used a license plate fram camera made by boyo. Its great and easy to mount as well not noticeable at all.

Does crutchfield sell the double DIN mounting plate? If not where did you get it?
I have suddenly become interested in replacing my stock head unit with a double DIN NAVI/DVD unit but I want to use my stock non-dsp AMP (which is a 200watt alpine btw) and the aftermarket amp and sub I already installed by tapping into the factory wiring on the low side of the AMP. This unit looks HOT.
