Upgrading to OEM Navigation System

Like I previously discussed on a thread here, my stereo all of sudden took a turn for the worst and died on me about a month or so ago. After doing some research Ive decided instead of replacing my oem radio with another oem radio, I would upgrade to OEM Navigation. I have a lot of questions, which Ive searched but couldnt get a clear answer. Here they are:

1. Which head unit can do I get? Ive been on ebay an found a lot!!! Some have tap players behind the screen?! I guess my real question is when upgrade to the navigation head unit, do I look for a CD player head unit, or do I have to have the 6 disc player in the trunk???

2. Ive read that everyone is upgrading to the MKIV, which is what Ill be looking for, besides the obvious (Head unit, and computer) what else will I need? Brackets? Wires?

Any help is greatley appreciated! Im new to mods and dont know much. Thanks guys!

Also is anyone is selling their complete system please let me know!

Im assuming ur kidding at 65k, whats the 35d youll throw in...

He is playing about! A 35d is a car! You can get everything you need on ebay including the wiring loom, disc drive, screen etc, I see a 2 or 3 complete setups on there earlier on the uk site!

You will need:
-A retrofit wire harness
-The carrier bracket if you don't already have one
-A radio unit which is going to be mounted next to the battery
-The Nav screen and it has to be the one with the tape player in it, why? i do not know, even though there were already BMWs then with CD players behind the nav when they came out with the X5
-The Navigation Computer (MKIV) and brackets for that.
-The CD changer and brackets to attach it to the carrier or...Ipod interface
-Screen bezel, since you need one that is specific for the X
-Navi disc
-Navi GPS antenna

There is a write up somewhere here. But it will need a lot of time...

Only a handful members have done a nav retrofit. King is the only active member who did this.

Go to Bimmernav.com and do it through them. They really know their stuff. The owner, Martin, switched out my MID player on my 540i and installed a full OEM navigation. It worked awesome and no one could tell it was an after market OEM system, not even the dealer.

So I checked out the bimmernav website, and couldnt find the complete system for the X5. I found a complete system for a E39, but I dont know if its the same as the e53. If it fits Im doing it! Also interested in the DVD set for the back seats! If anyone knows if I can use the E39 system on my X5, please let me know!
