Painted Valve cover - what do you think?
Half way on my little 3 week long project. Aside from ripping out the stereo (more to come on this), I had a pretty bad oil leak. I decided to replace the following: 1) valve cover gaskets 2) VANOS gaskets 3) Upper timing chain cover gaskets While I had everything apart, I was disgusted by the valve covers and decided they needed a facelift. So here's what I did. 1) stripped the paint off with aircraft pain stripper 2) painted to valve cover with high gloss 500F paint 3) painted the plastic cover with black "hammered" look paint Here's the end result:  Here's a comparison before I pull the other cover. Look at how much cleaner the left side looks:  I'm also using the "hammered" paint on the top cover and using some high heat adhesive to attached my old hood emblem (which is almost a perfect fit by the way). Pics of that to come along with drivers side.

Looks great. I just did mine too
I made mine silver. Took forever to dry.
Let me know if you have trouble putting the drivers side back on without the gasket falling out. I had a rough time keeping the gaskets seated while tryiong to navigate the cover around the coolacnt hose etc. I had to reach under the cover while putting it on to re-align the gasket. Lucas

The shop who rebuilt the M62 in my 740iL did the same thing. Unfortunately over the years, it's started to flake off. I've seen poeple powdercoat the cover, which is a more permanent solution.

That is awesome looking! There are rumors all over as to what materials was used to make the valve covers...anything from magnesium to plain ol aluminum. I have a pic of some great looking blue PC'ed covers on another computer. I like your red as well.
