2003 X5 3.0 P0444 fault code

My 03 3.0 has a fault code P0444 Evap Emission SystemPurge control valve circuit open. When looking in the bentley manual on page 160-2 i don't see an item called this but do see it ref on page 160-3 as the carbon canister purge valve. Would anyone know where this valve is located on the 3.0 and have any experience with this fault code (i.e did you have to replace valve)?

Any help greatly appreciated

I have attached a picture with which I think is the purge valve which is also (I think called the Evap Emmisions control valve). its under the Intake manifold up front right next to the power steering reservoir. if any one knows if the purge valve is the emmissions control valve and thats its location I would appreciate it.

Without having looked at my docs yet, wouldn't it simply be that your fuel cap is not fully tightened?

I believe the Fuel cap being open gives you a P0445 fault. The P0444 is an open circuit (I believe meaning electrical not evap emmissions or fuel plumbing being open). I have had the fault now for a month and the fuel gas cap has been tight as I have watching that. I have an ODb II reader and fault earser so i claer after I see it and it still comes back.

Sounds like you have a vacuum leak. Check all vacuum hoses.
They tend to dry out and split.

Update. I have driven 300 miles and no new fault. i did unplug the connector to the purge valve and did get the same fault to occur P0444 Evap circuit open. I believe that the valve may be going bad and thus giving me the intermitent fault code.

I'm having the same problem with the PO444 error on a 2002 4.4. Anyone know where the valve is on the V8? I guess the best thing is to replace the valve?
