As far as any indications that this may happen - I did not have any but I did notice a slight knock immediately after startup that only lasted for less than a second. I don't know if this is related in any way but if there were a blockage it would make some odd noise I imagine. On my E46, when the OS had problems immediately after I shut down the engine I would get a "fog horn" sound or a slight moan. Other than that I don't know of any telltale symptoms. Good luck....

OK, I have to eat my own words since BMWNA picked up the tab for fixing your car for free.
just ordered 2011 E92 335XI that just went to status 151, come on June.

The team consisted of a BMWNA rep, a field service assessor, the dealership warranty guy and the service manager. Three vehicles in for the same problem had 65K, 93K and 125K miles...all X5s. The SA told me that they were making a determination in the meeting if BMWNA would cover the repair and he said he would call me first thing this morning with the verdict.

The SA also stated that BMW is coming out with a heated oil separator in addition to the heated wrap that is installed on the plumbing to the OS. This part is not available yet but if the work is covered by BMWNA, when the part comes in they will install that one as well.

I will update the board as soon as I find out what the decision is. The SA thought I had a fighting chance at 93K.

Do you know if the guy with 125k got his bill picked up by BMW.??

Im amazed about the variation of how BMW handles this issue.!!

A lot of people have had this issue, and some get the parts paid for, others the job alone, some all, some half price and most of us, none at all..

How can this be.?!??

BTW. Im very happy for you that BMW picked up the tab..

Yeah wonder how that can be, but my guts feeling would be:
1) if original owner since new
2) mileage on the car
3) year out of waranty
3) BMW ext waranty or none
4) Other BMW in the garage
