Replace belt pulleys?

Do the AC Compressor Pulley, Water Pump Pulley, and Power Steering Pump Pulley ever need to be replaced? I'm changing my belts and a bunch of other stuff under the hood. From what I've read, the three pulleys I noted above are made of plastic. I plan to inspect them when I have it all pulled apart but I'm assuming they will be "visually" fine. Has anyone ever had one shatter or break just because they are old? My car is an 01 3.0i and I doubt they have ever been replaced. I also saw that there are metal pulleys available for replacement which to me sounds like they would better anyway. Thanks for any guidance!
