After repairs still having problems Need Help

Last week I was on my way home (about a miles away) and I heard a sound, pop. The SAV (2001 X5 4.4) was hard the steer. When the car cooled off, I inspected what made that sound. The alternator belt broke and some of it wrapped around the fan cluch nut. The water pump was shot so I replaced the water pump, battery, thermostat, belts and upper and lower hoses.

The drive home must have drain the battery because when I tried to crank the car, after the repairs, there was no power. I charged the battery and went to the part store to buy a new battery. When I got there I was told I had a water leak and sure enough I did. The car is not showing any codes. After the battery replaced, I drove home and looked under the car and no water leaks. WHAT IS THAT ALL ABOUT? COULD MY ALTERNATOR GONE BAD WHEN THE BELT BROKE?

what? i am lost, why would a water leak cause the alternator to go??? and why did you replace the WP? did you verify it was bad? please clarify as why did you go get a battery too? seems like a lot of unnecessary work for just a popped belt

I'll say put volt-meter on the car during idle acros the battery terminals and you should see close to 13.8v or more. Maybe do this once your battery is fully charge, or do search there is a hidden diagnostic mode that can show you the voltage of battery.

Not sure how the auto-part-store could tell you about water leak when there is no trace of coolant or code?

The alternator on 4.4i is water cooled.

you could have a warped alternator. check the voltage and go from there

Maybe my discription is misleading. No, I am not saying that a water leak, after the repairs, cause the alt to go. I think the bearing in the pump when bad and caused the belt to brake. I could take the fan blade and move it up and down and all around. I decided to get a new battery before my warr was out because now I have a brand new 3 year free replacement at a discounted price.
