thanks for the info. it turns out that the clip extended from the fender was bended. i got that part of without breaking anything. however, the vertical clip still doesn't want to let go. is there a detail of the vertical clip. its getting really close but again i am afraid of breaking anything. any info would be appreciated.

Job completed
Job completed. Turned out I never was able to pull the vertical clip out. I just rotated the trim piece such that I got enough clearance to get to the bolts. But this is a life safer though: my wife's Mikasa hostess serving spoon. I caught the bolt that otherwise would have fallen into the bumper.
She would have killed me if she knew I used it for this.
