LED License Plate Lights
Lately I have been searching for a good source to purchase some decent LED light bulbs for the rear license plate. I continuously find fake ebay sources which i refuse to even bother with.
I purchased my Depos from eAs and I found these pair on their site: eas - 714.369.8524 | eas - LED License Plate Lights But it doesn't say if it supports X5s or not. is there a chance it might? If not, anybody have a better link towards a source on where to purchase some decent bulbs? Thanks! |

I think Bavauto sells led's too. I'd really like to replace all my interior lights with led's to reduce the draw. I replaced all in my Lexus Lx450 and got them from a guy who made them on the Ih8mud forum. I'll check with him to see if he might be able to make some for BMW's.

I have purchased all of my bulbs from www.autolumination.com Tail Light Brake Light Turn Signal LED Bulbs and have never had any warning lights from them. Their website is a little crude, but they sell quality bulbs for cheaper than most. I replaced license plate bulbs and majority of my interior.

You will not get any bulb warning lights if your car came with Low Tech Instrument Cluster.
Most X5's on this board having problem with bulb warning lights because they have Hi Tech Instrument Cluster. |

Not totally true - I don't get a word message, but I do get an indicator light that shows up on the little vehicle diagram on the dash.

That is why I stated "Not totally true" bc I know tail lights showed up, but I wasn't sure about the license plate, but I guess you were referring only to the license plate bulbs.

Personally, I put in the same 6X4 (24 total) LED boards that I installed in my trunk. I've found that they will blink upon start-up, but so far I have not had a bulb error pop up on my cluster (knock on wood). Many other "no-error" LEDs also blink on start-up but will not give you an error (like mine). I'm about to go out and snap pics and will edit this post in a bit with them.
Mrbmwx5, you are wrong, the computer is pretty sensitive to bulbs changes on the outside. Also, for anyone thinking about "xenon" bulbs for your license plate lights to avoid blinking and errors, DO NOT DO IT. The small housing for the license plate bulbs combined with the excessive amount of heat these bulbs generate lead to scorching of the circuit board that the contacts are attached to. It did in my truck, and led me to do the 24 board of LEDs. Also, the no error bulbs on ebay with heatsinks do not fit in the housings and can short on the contacts, so avoid those as well. They did not blink though. |

I made tons of these type of bulbs and they're bright like football Field. .. I'm using it without any error/warning codes, but when i put these same bulbs on Richirich car, he have ( Hi Tech cluster) it give him error/warning codes... So i have to go diff round to solve the problem for him.Your led's blinking bc they using cheap/weak/ low voltage bulbs. Last edited by mrbmwx5; 02-19-2010 at 10:56 PM. |
