Radio Static?

Okay, well lately I Have noticed a lot of static on the radio stations in my X5 here in New York. I am pretty sure that it isn't due to the area I am in at the time because with another car around the area it was clear. I was wondering if there is any way I could enhance the antenna signal in the X?

Note: My X is an 01, 4.4i and does not come with a navi. I installed one but the point im trying to stress is that I do not have one of those like shark navi antennas on the top of my X.

Thanks!

AM or FM?
Imo, the AM band of our radios sucks, in terms of reception; I've had a AM band
"fix" twice, and the sound was ok for awhile, but deteriorated quickly: mucho static.

Our FM, however, works very well on our '01; we don't have NAV either,
just the basic "Biz CD Radio" deal.

Are you describing the crummy AM static or the typical flutter/picket fence sound
on FM, that is common in metro areas with tall buildings?

No electronics xpert here, just trying to help.

I also have noticed in the last week my FM reception has gone down. I did replace some bulbs with led and had to reset the battery. Is there a fuse somewhere that could be blown?

Mine has been like that for ages and never got the time to get it checked.

An example would be, on FM 92.9 the radio would automatically change to 95.0. Wonder is there a way to fix it or to make it not "auto search"

I don't operate in the City/boroughs anymore, but on our 3+ annual trips
back to the NYC environs, our FM still works decently...occasional "flutter"
when we are downtown in the canyons, but not bad. (It's an '01.)

Dunno how to suggest a fix; did you peruse Search Tab or the separate
forum for radio/nav, et al ?

Re the defroster
That happened to me and they replaced he rear window. That fixed that issue.

However, since day one I've had intermittent faint static even with the radio off!
Since it's intermittent they could never find - fix that problem.

Happens in all kinds of weather and seasons.

I have a 2006 X5 3.0 - standard radio. Only addition is a hard wired Valentine One in the headliner with a remote in the ash tray.
