Hi,
The wife lost her set of X keys this week. Can anyone tell me if this a stealership part? I guess for the programing part it would be.

theres only 5 sets of keys i believe for each BMW and 2 come with the car. i beleive you can get a uncut key from ebay but i dont believe you can start your car without it being programed to recognize your car. Iv bought a key from the stealer ship and it was about 200 =/.

Unhappy

Thanks for the reply. So what happens if all 5 keys have been issued over the life of the car? I have a feeling this is going to hurt !!

No biggie, just go to the dealer with proof of ownership and order a new one. Here in the US it is about $165+tax and you get it in 3 days or so.

I guess you could sell her and find a replacement wife within 3 days... but I think it would cost you more than the price of a key.

Forgot to add, don't buy one off ebay or anywhere else. It won't start your vehicle. In this case, this is a dealer item.

I just ordered one yesterday. It was $199 for the master and $79 for the manual key. All I did was brought my title so they could fax it and my DL to where ever they order it from.
Said it will be here tomorrow.

Good luck

there is max of 10 keys. 3 come with the X5 the valet/wallet key, and 2 master keys. that leaves 7 more keys available to be made. no key on ebay will be able to start the car, it can not be programmed without special knowledge.
