i have a 3.0d and am surprised by the very even wear across the tyres, only exception is front left hand outer (right hand drive) and this is from u turns and round-about's Ewen |

It is more common on the X5's with 19'+ wheels and/or sport package. It can typically be eliminated/reduced by getting a proper alignment, fixing worn/broken suspension parts or both.

I agree, i had mine aligned twice! first guy was a mess, second guy was better but never put weights in back, anyway a few months back I was getting uneven wear on the inner rear on one side, toe was bought into spec although camber was just within limits too, so far so good, got the 3.0d with sports package and 90% of x's I make an effort of checking when i pass by in the streets have the same wear on the inner rears! so seems common alas, no big deal but these tires aren't that cheap....

I never seen the problem on a 3.0d (or a 3.0i for that matter) with the standard 235/65R17 tyre and wheel package.

Sports package 3.0d 19 inch staggered 255/50 up front, 285/45 rear, you are right don't think the 'standard' setup has issues

Just one of the many advantages of smaller wheels with skinnier, higher profile tyres.

i have 19 inch wheels and the sports package and don't seem to have any uneven wear on the rear tyres, oops i have to rephrase that, ive just gone and stuck my head under the back of my car and surprise surprise the inner 1 inch of road surface tread is bald particularly the right hand rear, the tyres over all are due for replacement as they are about 1 mm off the wear bars, dam should have looked closer before i posted hehe.
i'll get an alignment when i get new tyres and see how it goes ( booked in for next week) the mechanic i use builds cars for the Australian Porsche cup and really knows his stuff so we'll see what he reckons, he has done good jobs on my previous cars Ewen |

please let us know how it pans out with you porsche mechanic fella, my guy couldn't get the camber to the level i wanted, toe was ok, but camber on one side was just within factory spec on high side, still not found a decent mechanic who can tell me what parts are worn or bent etc

17s with 235/65R16 both ends. That's standard on base, non-sports model. Means you can have a full-size, same as the road wheels spare. Currently running Pirelli Scorpion ATRs.
