Engine shuts off while crossing intersection!!!
I own a 2002 4.6iS and when driving home tonight I was making a left across an intersection and my engine cut off. I tried repeatedly to get the car out of the road, but it kept dying a few seconds after I turned the ignition. I then revved the engine to about 3500 rpm and put it in drive and that allowed me to pull over into a parking lot. The engine was idling close to 0 on the tach, but I was able to make it home okay, which was only half a mile.
Any idea why the X5 is doing this? Something similar happened a couple weeks ago... I came to an intersection and the light turned yellow. I hit my brakes pretty hard and when I stopped the battery light came on like it does when the ignition is on "accessory mode", the car lurched like it was about to stall, and then came back to normal throttle. This was on my way to the BMW dealership for service on the radio volume cutting out. The dealership couldn't find anything wrong with the car.
Any help would be helpful. Obviously I will be taking the damn X5 back to the dealership and I am even considering having road side service come out and pick it up. I could have gotten into a bad accident if traffic was heaving on the street I was crossing.
