Anyone seen a DIY for replacing the HVAC Blower Motor?

I've got an '02 X5 3.0l with a blower motor that squeals during cold starts. I am certain that this is a result of bearing wear in the motor & that the motor needs to be replaced. I know it requires removing the dash board and then some but I'm not really interested in investing $1500+ to take it to the dealer. I've seen some pretty detailed DIYs on other complicated projects but nothing on dash removal. Thanks for your suggestions!

Mine is experiencing the same problem and due to the labor intensive job that it is to replace and lack of shop space, I have been avoiding it like the plague. I have the BMW TIS software which walk you through repair procedures, step by step but would definitely recommend the Bentley service manual. I would check with your local library to see if they have it for check-out.
