Man...........I remember back in 2000 when my buddy picked up a 3.0i.......nothing fancy at all, but just the look of it.....I was sold back then. I also remember the first time I saw a 4.6is..........my jaw was on the ground. That would have been summer of 02'.

I sure do my part in that quest!

Just yesterday a friend of mine was saying that he now doesn't care about vehicles anymore, driving is just a chore/task and any vehicle feels the same to him now... So I pulled over and insisted we swapped seats, then kicked the shifter into sport... After he hit the gas for the first time he had a grin from ear to ear, first time hitting the brakes he almost hit the windshield and laughed, and since the first u-turn taken at speed he would now need a grinectomy to carry a serious face! He always had crappy vehicles, and his current (and best to date) is a 98 chevy 1500 pickup with 8' bed and worn suspension... literally the most fun vehicle he had driven before this was when he borrowed my old 89 bronco with the powerfull V8 and big mudders so I guess he was due for a driving enthusiasm update, albeit with a 7 year old vehicle with 95,000 miles!

(it is never hard for me to find a designated driver as long as we take my truck )

People always tell me how nice the X5 looks. It's an oldy but goody. They are shocked when I tell them it's 9 years old and even more when I state the mileage.

WallyX5,

I would be intrigued to hear about your repair/maintenance history to get to that many miles. If for no other reason than just to cheer me up. I've had soooo many repair issues that your amount of mileage seems unreachable to me. Cheer me up!

I love my '01 E53 X5!

RepoMan: I can count the total non-maintenance repairs, in the 8 1/2 years, on less than my fingers.
Keep your chin up!

Yeah, I've been down in the dumps too. The latest repair is the headlight leveling sensor and yesterday, one of the rear decklid lights decided to pop out and break. I'll be hitting 100k in about 400 miles. As I've said many times before, I hope this will be the last thing to go for a while.

I'm trying to. It's a little difficult to keep it when I need my toes too to count the repairs at less than 65K . . . my chin that is.

Good article.

I think the first X5 that really did it for me was the pre-face lift 4.4i sport package with the Y-spokes. I remember driving near the BMW center in South Carolina and saw a few before (or right as) they were hitting dealers. They changed the game for SUV's, imo.
