Not trying to insult you hotshark, but JCL has practically spoon fed you on where to look for the info you require. It is very hard to see where the exact part is in your photo, but you should be able to put your production month/year into realoem.com and locate the part you need. Like he said, looks like a headlight or self leveling suspension sensor of some sort. Good luck. Maybe someone will be willing to do more research on your behalf.

Practically?

Well, in for a penny in for a pound.

Since it is apparently too hard to read a parts book, here is a picture of the (unbroken) part. I found it on the inventory list of an auto wrecker in Sweden. Psst, hotshark, you can buy it there for 455 krona if you don't want to go to the dealer. At least this will show you what it looks like when it isn't broken. Further diagnosis available at standard charge out rates.

Let's recap.

Yes, the sensor is broken. The arm is broken off of the sensor in the picture.
The arm connects to a link, which appears to be missing. If so, you require that link as well.
The link attaches to a bracket, likely on the control arm of the suspension. If the bracket is missing, you require it as well.
The link is attached to the arm with a self-locking nut. Those nuts are missing as well.

I don't know if this is on both sides or one. You could tell by looking at your vehicle. Air suspension likely requires two sensors, but the headlights could be operated with just one.

It appears that you require a mechanic. I am not sure what you are trying to accomplish here yourself. If you are not familiar with the parts you are asking about, you should take the vehicle to a mechanic that is familiar with them.

It is not unusual for the part not to be on realoem, as it is 8 years old. Part numbers regularly get changed up to new numbers, either because the part is improved, or it comes from a different supplier to BMW.

We want to help here, but you have to take some responsibility. Really, I think that confirming that it is indeed broken is about the limit of what we should do here in this case. I can't see what it connects to on your vehicle to figure out how much is damaged or missing.

Good luck.
