Sorry to hear about your misfortune. But 80K is pretty good, mine took a dump at 58K. Not bad!

I know these things are not the most reliable vehicle on the road but geeeeez. It seems like I've had many more problems then most others on here. I know some people don't care for me to talk negatively about the X but with my experiences I have nary a positive thing to say. It looks good, handles good and brakes well but that's not a fair tradeoff for what I've had to deal with on the repairs. It's unfortunate that this is my first experience with BMW as this experience will keep me from purchasing again.

to me, that is not "nickel and dimes". With cars, sometime you get unlucky. I hope to make it to 80k+ without too much problems, but 2-3 of those kind of expenses... I like the car, but I'd be re-thinking my options, too.

Sounds like my first 540iT. Horrible money pit of a car. Sometimes it just happens. Grandmother's Volvo 850 hasn't been to shabby on the credit card either over the years (and she never goes anywhere).
My X has been great. Best vehicle (of 3) that I"ve gotten from BMW. |

Yea I guess that can happen sometimes. On the other hand I have studied the parts that have prematurely failed me and it is very easy to see why. Most of the parts are poorly engineered or engineered with poor materials that make them destined for premature failure. And yet nothing is done to improve the part even after the part has overwhelmingly proved to be a failure. Somebody somewhere in BMW has got to realize when they have sold more y-pipes than X's that the y-pipes must have a problem with them. But obviously nobody cares. Also, those crappy DISA valves that look like they were designed and assembled by a 5 year old with seal that I would classify as "a vacuum leak waiting to happen" at best. A small sample of crappy parts used that make up my problematic X.
