Electrical/Battery Drain Issue
Just replaced the alternator and power steering pump. Since getting the new alternator, the battery doesn't seem to charge on short trips. Took it in to the shop and they claim it's getting enough power and I shouldn't expect it charge on such short trips. Wasn't a problem until the new Bosch alternator. Now to add insult, when it starts, the auto transmission will shift from park to reverse or drive, but is stuck in third gear in drive. Maybe a result of the electrical problems? Any ideas? Seems like its got to be the alternator or maybe a problem in the starter? |

Was the battery ever FULLY charged back up after alternator failure? Have you had battery checked in addition to alternator? Is there something draining it while it is off, extra electronics, ac fan spinning up front, etc.? Will it not turn over at all or does it just seem weak?

Not sure if the battery was fully charged after the alternator was replaced.
After short trips it has trouble turning the engine over and barely starts. After a couple of short trips back to back, it won't turn over at all. Just clicks when you turn the key. Starts right back up with jumper cables. Nothing extra should be draining the battery. There isn't anything aftermarket in the car and none of the aux fan or anything else are on. |
