BlackX54.4i is on a distinguished road
My '05 4.4i does that as well when coming to a stop. Took it to my a dealer twice now and they adjusted the idle speed which helped some, but hasn't completely erased the problem.

So transfer case and front drive shaft?

Looks like I'll be printing this thread off and taking it in

From what I've read of the problem it sounds like an issue I had with my 2000 4.4i. It ended up being the transmission valve body. Once replaced the issue went away. Cost of the part from BMW is $1,800. My mechanic got it directly from the manufacturer for $550.

What is exactly this "valve body" ? Is it in the torque convertor?

No, it's not in the torque convertor. The BMW part number is 24347521639. You can see it at:
