Transmission???

Hello Everyone,
I've got a 00 X5 4.4 and today while driving 45 to 50mph the rpms started jumping up and down and, a couple of times it down shifted and the rpms went pretty high. I went to manual shift and drove it like that for awhile and no problems. Shifting in automatic are all smooth no jerks. Do you think it a shift solenoid or something like that or just the trans going out. 135,000 miles on it. Thank you all so much for all the great posts and DIY info on this site. I've saved so much $$$ by reading how to do it myself.

not sure if its the same... but mine does something similar almost like the transmission has a mind of its own. when my indy hooked it up to his GT1 he saw a transmission temperature sensor error... there are other posts on this site that reference similar problems.
