Tranny Thump

I own a 2005 X5 4.4. It has about 12k miles on it. About a month ago I noticed that if I came to a stop sign, stopped briefly, and then continued, that it would sometimes (4 times!) clunk as if the flywheel were catching up with the tranny, or something like that. So I took it in to my dealer, and he just called to say that the tranny needed to be re-programmed, and that the situation I described is not unusual.

hmmmmm!

Yep, common 04 problem. Somewhat with the 05's too.

yes, it is common as I had my tranny reprogrammed 3 times and it now seems to work relatively well, however, it is not perfect and it does have the occassional hickup

I am noticing the same problem much more lately with my 04 4.4. I might go for the reprogram when I bring it in for service next month. Let us know how your reprogramming affects the problem, if at all.

Based upon the title of this post, I was thinking you had a run-in with a different type of tranny. Glad it's not what I thought!
