Question about Stereo, NAV and TV

Question. I have a 2001 X5 that currently has an in dash CD player with a radio below. I am wondering if I can install the 16:9 screen in my dash and have the stereo system still function properly. The reason I want the screen is not for the navagation system but I want to use the screen as a monitor that i can plug in my mini mac into so i can view whats being displayed. I understand there is some sort of TV module that can be used to do this? If anyone can help me out i would appreciate it.
I'm told the stereo system in my X5 is a premium unit, if that helps.

the screen uses up that whole space. eliminating the cd player. you also have to get the computer with it. then there is a module u can buy to add a aux video input.

01-03 electronics are the most difficult A-A-R-R-G-H!!! factor in upgradng the X5, as virtually all new plugs are blade pins vs the 01-03 round pins. Rarer than hen's teeth is the mechanic willing to even attempt dealing with wholesale replacement of original parts to something with the latest bells'n'whistles - Been there, still there

May be cheaper and more simplified to look into an aftermarket system. The biggest issue would be getting a aftermarket bezel and the modifications in order for the new deck to fit.

I don't want to go with aftermarket. Installing aftermarket equipment always looks like crap. I like the OEM look.
What year 16:9 screen should I use? What computer is mywidebody02 referring to? Any part numbers for the module or computer?
Just to get it straight. For now, just talking about the stereo, not the TV part. If I install the screen will the stereo work as mine does now?
I know the install f the 16:9 screen will take up both spots for the existing CD player and radio.
My current radio has DSP with controls on the steering wheel.
Sorry for all the questions. I don't want to just start buying parts and end up with the wrong stuff and something that won't work.

i dont know what the problem is, it is simple to retrofit wide screen monitor, You do not need to install the Nav computer if you dont want to, you can just install the Video Module, and that will generate the RGB signals. You will need a retrofit harness old to new style($60) and then install the kit. Plan to spend $100-200 for wiring harness. $ 5-700 for used onboard monitor, and $2-300 for a used video module, or $400 for a used nav computer.
