changing the factory nav system

I have an 04 X5 4.4i and I don't like the stock navigation system. I have a pioneer avic -d3 nav system that I want to install. Can anyone tell me if I replace the stock system will I ruin any of the electronics or screw anything up that currently operates through the stock nav system?

Do you plan on retrofitting the Pioneer system in place of the BMW nav system? If so I hope you have every necessary schematic under the sun to reference.

as long as you install it properly you will have 0 issues at all. I have installed the JVC NX7000 in my X5 4.4 and all is well thankfully =)

Not so much retrofit but just a basic install with a dash kit and a harness. I was just curious and wanted to know if anyone out there has completely removed the stock system and installed something different and didn't have any problems afterwards. I understand I might loose some functions, I just don't want to cause any errors

There's a strong possibility I will be. I will let you know as soon as I install the aftermarket system. I just want to make sure everything still functions correctly. I'm currently waiting on the radio bezel and harness to arrive.. as soon as it's done I will get back to you.

If you remove the factory nav then forget about being able to control the on-board computer systems (including setting the clock, date, etc.)

Yea. Got that problem whn i put Alpine W502 in last year. The installers had no idea that would happen. Now i have to rely on the small clock on the Alpine screen. You will still have the range, consumption stopwatch control on the dash but everything else linked to dates and time is no good.

A question for all of u who fitted a 2 din monitor, do u have any problem with seeing the screen during the day? Coz, i can't see sh!t when the sunlight hits the screen.
