Looks great, but I'd be nervous to use something like the Eagle One. Don't the running boards have some protective coating on them? If you etch it off won't they rust like hell come next winter?

Winter? What's that? I live in Southern Cali and we don't really get winter. As far as the coating I don't know, guess time will tell.

I wonder if metal wax would work to keep these looking new.

My experience tells me you really do not need to do any extra protecting for the boards. My running boards were perfect before my neglected brake disks, and have been perfect since I restored them.

So basically they have only been treated specially once in 7 years, and that was only due to unusual circumstances.

The OE coating seems to serve quite well. Thats my opinion anyways.

Metal wax (never heard of this before) sounds like it would seal the deal though.

I followed the instructions with the AG metal polish but wasn't able clean away the "rust" spots. I scrubbed with a towel and and are still some black spots left. I find it very hard to get the spot between the door frame and the running board as I can't apply a lot of pressure scrubbing that part.

Thanks

I know this an old one, but it helped me out big time. I did a couple of test areas, and wow. I have been trying to clean these for awhile with no luck until I found this thread. Thanks again.
