New X5 owner, veteran BMW owner here!!!

Hey all wanted to say I really like this site!! Im a veteran R3Vlimited, bimmerforums, Maxbimmer, and dtmpower member but this blows them all away for the X5.
I've had 12 BMW's, mostly E36's. Here are the current rides, including my E30 on which I have done a complete restoration and paint job.

Thanks again and see you around!

Hola R3V...I'm also on BFc, DTM, etc. Welcome to the club, Xoutpost is a great specific site for the E53 body. I often link people to www.e38.org for M62 engine specific repairs. Fortunately you already have experience w/ the I6, so hopefully you'll be able provide some insight and links to M54 engine specific repairs.

14 pages on your painting thread...good reading so far and I'm only on page 3. I've always wanted to learn to paint. I'd like to paint my work truck from a blah tan color to a nice and crisp white to match my trailer.

Hi and welcome to Xoutpost! That E30 is sick love those cars, just reading your build thread now. The E53 is good family machine, it will have no problem towing and hauling anything and great in snow and mud.

What kind of mods do you have planned for the E53 clear corners, sports pkg tails, rims??

love this pic, what kind of lens are you using?

Thanks guys! Its nice for people to appreciate these cars and the work, time, and money they consume. As for mods, absolutely sport clear tails. If anyone has some let me know. They have to be OEM though! I would like to mod the headlights to remove the amber lens and replace with a clear lens. I already bought a hitch, and already installed hella xenon 4500K 100W fog bulbs. I love the style 69 wheels and the Y spokes, keeping an eye out for some of those. I would like to paint the black piece above the license plate and the side door molding white to match. You can see on my E36 I painted the black trim white the whole way around and I love the way it looks. I think painting all the black on the bumpers and wheel wells/running boards would be white-overload on the X5.
Didn't do too much to the E36- replaced shocks, struts, steering rack, entire frontend, waterpump, radiator, oil pan gasket etc., euro clear tails and front signals, euro OEM self-adjusting headlights with HID 5000K conversion, body-matched trim, and have factory 15's with all-seasons, 17" Racing Dynamic 5-spokes, and the 18" M Parallels.
The E30 has all the same maintenance items-everything on the car has been replaced except for the engine/tranny. I also put in a 4:10 viscous coupling LSD, sparco strut brace, euro grilles, HID 5000K conversion, E36 iC antenna swap, facelifted bumper swap, IS front spoiler, shaved 3rd brakelight, 16" borbets, and body-painted hardtop - the rarest part! In the middle of a full leather replacement of the interior.
I bought the X5 3.0 since my wife is expecting and insists a car seat will not work in the convertibles. It had to be Alpineweiss III, my favorite color. I wanted 3.0 since I am familiar with the M20, M50, and M52. Also, my brother had a 740iL and had a lot of problems with his 4.4 which scared me (no hatin' on your V8!!).
it has the cold weather package, HID headlights, airbag package, rear climate package (with those cool built in shades), rain sensing wipers, and is exceptionally clean inside and out. It has 117K, was a Certified used BMW in 06, new catalytic converters and O2 sensors, and I got it for 10K. Not the best deal I have ever seen, but its nice and rides beautiful.
I have an SES light on, but think a full tune-up should fix it. I have the following in the mail- full transmission, differential, transfer case, and engine oil replacement, filters for the above, K&N air filter, fuel filter w/ regulator, plugs, etc. I checked my DISA valve and it looks good. Hopefully the light is not related to the AFM. Also need to check the air intake boots for cracks as those are notorious in my other cars.

As far as the camera lens, i'll have to get back with you on that! My sister shoots weddings and did the pics for me. All I know is it was big and expensive

Thanks again!

You could get some 01-03 sport tails which a direct swap, or you could get some 04-06 tails which a lot of people like to get. Its basically the same design but the turn signal lens is crystal clear with an amber bulb it really looks good on alpine white. I'm attaching a picture of what they look like, there are some you can get on eBay. I would try local first you can usually get a good deal.

bimmerboy12, welcome to X5world, erm... Xoutpost!

On the tail lights, there are some that have had problems with burnt contacts at the brake light bulb socket. If you are comfortable repairing that issue with some simple epoxy and soldering work I have an extra pair of clear corner sport lights in the 00-03 style that I could hook you up with for pretty cheap. There are writeups with pictures on many BMW forums, with links to them in a few threads here.

I guess I don't know the difference between the 00-03 style vs. the 04-06... I knew they were different but how? I thought the 00-03 style were clear with amber bulbs like the picture posted above?
Can you PM me some pictures? Very interested.
Thanks again for the compliments guys!

Welcome man. Good looking cars. I am a fellow Alpine III e36 owner as well. I previously had an e30 318i and 325e too. Wheels are starting to look a little rough (especially in photos with a flash), but I do have over 310,000 miles on this car now...
