there are two type of grille guards chrome and no chrome. If you have a catalog you will know what I am talking about.

I do have a catalogue!I have fitted dozens of these!I asked you "what grill guard" because some members confuse the bonnet grills and the bumper grills!

If people knew what you are talking about, you probably would have more replies to your question.
Meanwhile have a look at the link below.

Thanks for the info. I have no ideas there are more grille guards to choose than the ones in the BMW catalog. I have been shopping around town but no one has grille guards for X5. they always refered me back to the dealer. The one I want is #2 in the link. Thanks again for the info.

Hi powers1
I am talking about the one with skid plate and made by plastic. It seems going through the plastic bumper in the picture. I may be wrong. Have you done this particular one before?

No, UCrewX5. I was referring to the OEM grille guard # 2 in the link that powers1 provided.

Ok.Got you now!You mean post #3 in the link and photo #2.
This photo shows an underbumper plastic skid plate and a "bull bar" that is fitted through the bumper. To fit this Bar You need to drill the bumper with a round saw bit and in the holes made you put in rubber trims .The Bullbar is secured to the oem bolts under the front chassis member.
