I do drive less, it sits in the garage waiting for repairs and parts at least one week a month.

consider yourself lucky you don't have a range rover - those numbers might be reversed

Asking a brake replacement question regarding when to replace them is basically an open ended question. How you drive, where you drive, where you live, and if you tow or not are just a few factors which will affect wear. Some people get 20k some get 60k+. We live in SF with hills. Our brakes last around 25k miles. More city, 20k miles. A 5000lb vehicle is NEVER easy on brakes.

Good answer. It sounds like the OP is looking to replace them prematurely for the sake or replacing them...just like oil changes, I wait for the OBC to tell me when it's needed.

If I bring it to different garage, can they tell if the brake pad were replaced back in two years ago?

How often do you guys replace your break linings?

TIA.
Where in Seattle are you located? I come back quite often (Edmonds and Medina), so if you're a DYI'er, maybe I can come help ya out.

It sounds to me like the OP doesn't believe the dealer actually changed them 2 years ago, and wants to take it back for free, two years after the warranty expired.

In most cases you will need to change brakes every few years - of course depends on driving patterns and mileage and so on, but it still seems highly unlikely that the dealer didn't replace them 2 years ago...

Mine was last changed at 72K miles. Now changing again tomorrow at 104K miles. My experience has been around 30K miles. Not sure about the rears as I replace pads at all 4 corners at a time.

PS. BMW OEM Pads. Other pads may last a bit longer.
