Certain BMW engines are known to weep from their seals. If you left it alone nothing bad would probably happen. Just keep your eye on the oil level. I had the same issue on my 01 740i (same motor as the 4.4 prior to 04+)

Thanks for the info JT, How much is a weep vs a leak? Might sound like a dumb question but when it is sitting in the garage it doesnt leak at all. Im thinking about just leaving it and sticking some cardboard under the truck. If it would happen to be a gasket that is leaking does that require a quicker repair?

If the rear main has a big leak, like if it leaves a puddle every time... then I'd look at having it changed. But like mentioned above it could be the valve cover gaskets etc. leaking down causing most of it. If the rear main is just seeping I'd leave it alone for now, but change it in the future if/when the transmission comes down for repair. That way it is only a few dollars more since the tramsmission is already out.
On any vehicle I have the transmission out of I always make sure the rear main gets changed at that moment as there is no better time.

If it is the valve cover gaskets is it more imperitive it is done sooner? The reason I ask is I have the oil changed every fall and would like to wait untill then for them to take a look at it. Considering they charge $125 to diagnose the oil leak im hopeing when they change the oil they will do it for free.
Thanks Weasel |

Depends on how much oil you're losing, but probably so. If you can keep up with it by topping off every so often then it shouldn't be a big deal, maybe just some driveway stains at the worst.
