Starting in 3rd gear using tip tronic / manual mode

Just wondering if anyone else starts off on 3rd gear if they use the manual shift and come to a stop. Mine starts from 3rd gear and my 3.0 would start off on 2nd. Should it be 2nd for the 4.4 or is it supposed to start on 3rd?

If you have it in manual shift mode it doesn't automatically downshift, but will go down to a gear low enough for you to start off in. (which comes in handy on ice for low power takeoffs to avoid spinning tires) The reason the 3.0i goes to second vs the 4.4i third is the difference in HP.

I thought they always kicked down to 2nd unless you had trans software.

the sound is great when your are in 3rd and you push the gaz (4.4 a v8 growl)

yup - mine will start in 3rd. I did that accidentally the other night and I thought for a minute - oh crap, there goes my trans.... Not realizing I had it in manual mode and was in 3rd gear. heh. Oops.

I hate AT's - too hard to deal with. With a real manual I always know what I'm doing, no matter what.

I hear ya. I only dream of my 4.6is with a manual transmission and a full function transfer case.........

That would be perfect. A buddy of mine has a 09 Cayenne GTS with a manual and he loves it. Similar idea there.
