auto transporters

you guys know any that you can recommend? shipping a car from CA to FL...but thinking about driving instead.

got quotes online for about $800, but tried 2 places recommended by some dealers in CA and they're about $1000.

I worked with a guy that used these guys to transport his M roadster from Cali to Chicago and then again when he moved out to Cali.

If you have the time and like to drive, I would make a road trip. I had my X shipped from FL and shipped to Cali. I was promised about a week which turned into over 2 weeks and a lot of run around. When I met up with the driver he was quite agitated as the X was loaded at the front and I was to be the last delivery, I met him part way which thru him off but it was what I worked out with the transporting company's boss. In the process of unloading the X the driver ripped the hood of a pretty new Honda with some loose chain hook, I stopped him from doing even more damage. His truck had several shredded tires and seemed like a real POS. I don't recall the shipping company because I bought it from a Dealer and they paid the shipping.

So if you go the shipping route don't let money be your main decision maker, a few hundred more dollars for piece of mind is worth it. Also get pictures of it when its loaded to reference when you receive it in case there is any damage.

I agree with drive it if you can. Flights are cheap and so are hotels. I flew my parents out to Vegas to pickup my E30 and it cost me with the week of fun, food, hotels, gas, and a busted water pump just 300 more than DAS wanted. The have a trip they will never forget Vegas, Sedona, Grand Canyon, RT66 all the back to Chicago plus stopped and visited my Aunt and Cousins in Missouri. I have a pretty cool "Baby Book" as my mother calls it with my vert in front of all the stuff I didn't get to see.

yeah, i'm concerned with how car will be treated en route to fl.

i went to CA for vacation, found an mint 2004 audi s4 with 8k miles and have been driving it around in ca and loving it. i have time to drive it back and would stop and see friends on the way to fl, so it could be fun.

oh yeah, I think I'll be selling my 2003 x5 4.6is with 35k miles...
