I will agree, the Wrangler is not something you will want as a daily driver, especially after having an X5. My parents have a 2003 Wrangler and that thing, although fun with the top off and cruising around, is not the most comfortable drive.

With that said, and addressing all of you that have criticized the Jeep, HAVE YOU BEEN ON THIS BOARD LONG???!!! My God, every other post is about something going wrong with the X5. And you are saying the Jeep build quality is bad???

I have not mentioned this, but my X5 replacement is currently in the garage. As soon as we found out my wife was pregnant, the SLK350 was traded in on a 2010 Grand Cherokee "S" package with a Hemi. Although I LOVE my X5, after all of the issues I have had with it, there was no way we were going to buy another one. For just a little over $40K, I got 357hp, towing capacity of 7200lbs., leather w/ suede inserts, heated front and rear seats, Nav, iPod connection, Bluetooth, etc., not to mention a 100K powertrain warranty.

My X5 will be driven until the next major thing breaks to where I cannot justify dropping multiple thousands into it. When that occurs, I will take over the Jeep and the wife will get what she wants.

Anyway, here are a few pics of my new ride - I am quite proud of her:

Thanks for all the valid input guys... especially you that acctually have or do own both. I've decided and traded the X in for a 2008 4-door unlimited X wranger today. I look forward to some quality offroad and topless time. I'll stick around don't worry you can't get rid of me that easily!

Not entirely unexpected given this tends to be a forum where people having problems with their vehicles come looking for help.

Gorgeous ride X5dawg. As for the OP, I went from a 05' JGC, Limited Hemi to the E70 4.8i. I loved the JGC. The power and agility for a Jeep was great. Of'course, every car has its problems (not unlike my X5 either.) Bang for buck (and shy of thinking about residual value's,) the Jeep is a great value. I liked Jeep since the Wagoneer days, through the first Overland's to the current model, and in fact think the new WK Jeep 2011 is beautiful. It looks like Jeep and BMW had a child....great looking Jeep, inside and out. Refined as the BMW? NO. Budget BMW with power? Yes.

Some things I wish were different would be the extra's that come with the BMW such as maintenance programs, loaner car programs (most of the dealers in my area do not offer loaners outside of warranty,) etc...

I still see my Jeep every now and again (sold it to my company,) and will drive it. Man, that Hemi has a nice start up note and great pull off the line. I do miss the days of off'roading in VT & NH with it. Tried it in the BMW...won't try it again...

Good Luck with your choice...

My old JGC Limited Hemi...

Jeeps are a great choice for the West b/c there's plenty of public lands to explore, not to mention that epic places like Moab, UT are not that far away. You'll have fun. Only downside to Jeeps like the Wrangler and my old I6 Cherokee is that they feel way underpowered at altitude!

hi all

i,m new to this site, i have recently purchased a 2005 3.od X5 and love it

why i am posting here is that i also have a 1994 Jeep XJ cherokee, lifted with 31 inch wheels, and re geared to suit, and done 390000 km, and i have to say the BM and Jeep are two very different cars, my BM was purchased just for comfortable, economical commuting to and from work, and to be our primary weekend car

(wife has a Suzuki SX4)

but the Jeep is used for camping, rough off road and beach work, also if we are away on our boat for a few days i prefer to leave the Jeep at the marina, not the BM, the jeep has had its issues but overall a very reliable car, it has never let me down, and also a reasonably comfortable car to drive, but fairly ordinary fuel economy as compared the the diesel BM

The X5 is truly and amazing car, i love its stability its ease of driving and the feeling of security,

i think the solution for the OP would be to do as i have and have TWO SUV/Sav's that way you cover all your bases
hehe
