you may be cleaning soot from the rear of your car from now on .
how do you know no one sees smoke from the rear ? . all diesels smoke .
You dont think it has one!Fact is, all 2003+ E53 ,like mine have DPF.
I shouldnt have to put this here because you should know
RealOEM.com BMW E53 X5 3.0d Catalyser/Diesel particulate filter

You will not see any soot on a Diesel exhaust with DPF,so thats how I know no one sees smoke from the rear!My tips are clean and I never had soot on the rear of my car!
Do your research on DPF first, or even better just follow a later E53 3.0D and check the exhaust emissions for yourself!
If you cant source any info on how DPF works and how it regenerates(burns the soot accummulated in the DPF),I will be only too happy to explain
