Yes Melvin. So far major problems are as follows:

1) replaced aux fan assembly and FSR

2) rear left air bag suspension - X5 now in shop trying to check self leveling suspension is working properly....

Mileage is now 57K ++++ kms....

you are lucky then

aux fan should be a silent recall early part of the decade.

rear suspension of the X5 isn't the most reliable. things to look at for are the air springs/bag leak(either one side or both rear suspension will be fully lowered if you leave the car overnight, level up once you unlock or start the car), air supply device malfunction (if you hear a compressor like grinding sound, costly).

you can check self leveling by putting heavy cargo at the back. you will see the suspension adjust its height due to the load.

where did you have it repaired?

our X5 is a worker at almost 100k, if not for 2 years down time at the stealerships, it would have been more.

i can attest that its not true that bimmers are less prone to breaking when used a lot even when its meticulously maintained by bmw standards

My X5 use to be serviced at BMW-Autohaus Libis. However, they were charging me almost P100k pesos to replace the whole air suspension system( air bags, control, module, and compressor). I brought my X to Basics-Makati and they gave a cheaper diagnosis of just an air bag leak and recalibration of air suspension....

No more stealerships for me....

What's your oil consumption like? Should be no more than 1 litre/1600km. Did the repairer put the right grade in - if it's too thin you may get an issue perhaps?

I know you said you replaced the turbo, but was it with a new one? It's possible the centre bearing has a problem and is leaking oil into the exhaust stream. This is potentially more serious if you get oil into the inlet stream as the engine can run on oil and will rev until it destroys itself. A very rare event but it can happen - especially given oil is just a thicker diesel!!

Everything you describe sounds like oil burning, but I have seen coolant failures laying down a cloud of short lives steam (though not for very long as the engine tends to overheat very quickly). I also would not expect steam to linger long in your climate either. One of either your coolant or oil levels will show which system is the likely culprit.

I suppose it's just possible you may have bad fuel on board - have you used different fuels to eliminate that remote possibility (has someone refuelled your vehicle and put a small amount of petrol in it by accident and kept quiet?). How is your fuel consumption under normal driving?

no figures on the oil consumption since the car has been with the stealership for 8 months. oil they put it with the new turbo is of 0w30

yes, turbo is new, cost me over $2000 for it. new turbo was leaking oil to both inlet and outlet (intake and exhaust), intake manifold and exhaust full of oil and had to be re cleaned. my update is on the latest turbo that was installed since the 2nd brand new one was shot as well.

i'm thinking its between the coolant or oil as well, as they are the ones circulating inside the engine, however i still don't have much time with the car to test it further. once i get it back will carefully monitor the level.

as for fuel and its consumption, the same thing, i could not test different fuels and its consumption as vehicle is back at the stealership for addition problems they made with the car (they broke my PDC, door actuator, did not attach suspension, under chassis cover properly)

once all the small things are sorted, that's when i can monitor the gas, oil and coolant

thanks for sharing you input
