First, I have never had a problem having a dealer do a recall check on any car I've ever owned, warranty or not. Second, like I said before, the chance that an actual recall that applied to a specific car wasn't performed at this point in the life cycle of the car is pretty rare. Third, your list isn't even remotely a complete one. You queried a generic database, not BMW's database. Your database wouldn't include things that improvements, tips, software changes, etc. So if you think that that is it, then you are dead wrong.

Way back when I was on the market for a 4.8is I checkout out a bunch of sites on specific vehicles and it wasn't until I had a dealer run the VIN for me that I found out that specific car was eligible, and in need, of a complete new engine.

Also, if you believe the dealer will check for you voluntarily for open campaigns you are stoned. You have to ask to check if there is any open campaigns and once the car is out of warranty most car owners will not go to a dealer for repairs.

call up BMW NA, ask them if their are any open campaigns on the vehicle. give them your VIN, and then if they say yes, you can bring in the vehicle at no charge to have the repairs completed. if the system that has a recall has been tampered with, then the repairs cannot be completed. If the dealer you bring your car to also notes down some additional information that your car needs, dont be afraid of the info. this is FREE information on the condition on your vehicle, they are doing their job telling you what else is wrong with the car, if you dont like FREE, then you are a MORON! If they tell you its unsafe the drive, and they cant let you drive the car home. Ask them to show you, and if they are correct, then have the repairs done, or tow the vehicle out of there. I would be appreciative of any information reguarding additional repairs my car needs, you should be also. Imagine if your CV boot was torn, and then they dont say anything to you, and you come back with a grinding/clicking noise, and now you need the entire joint replaced. Which will cost you more money. Or if there is a coolant leak and then you dont know about it, so you loose a bunch of coolant and overheat your engine, and now you have to get the car towed somewhere, and have the repairs done. Again-- more money. So do the first smart thing youve ever done before, and and do what i say.

I have a 2002 X5 but built in december 2001 and I was looking at a list of recalls online and I have a steering problem and seems that the recall description is the problem I'm having so my question is, Would the dealer still honor the recall because I dont know how recalls work?

Just had a Texas vehicle inspection done on my '03 4.4 X5, was given a printout of an open campaign to "check and replace the TCU". Anyone heard of this? BTW, go frogs!
Found an open campaign online, # 10E-A03. Action states that trans software needs to be reprogrammed but only mentions '04 production year. Anyone hear of issues with the '03 trans software?

TCU could be Telematics or Transmission. There was a telematics that was out there and then pulled. I had documentation of it's history and tried to get my fried TCU replaced and they didn't have it as 'active' or 'for my vehicle' anymore, an '05

So, where can I get a copy of that campaign statement? My 4.8is is an 04 and my TC has been acting up, shuddering under acceleration. No codes, etc. I assume it is referring to the torque converter unit?
If getting it in to reprogram will improve it, then it's a done deal!

vehicle with Premium Package with the BMW assist option have failures related to the Emergency Call feature of the TCU. Previously, the TCU would be attached to a MOXA device to check and recover the NAD, the Network Access Device. If it fails programming, the subscriber information would be check and if an active account is found, then the TCU would be replaced, if the account is not active, the TCU would be deactivated.
