Strange GPS problem.

Got a gps for my Wife's Z4M. Tested it out in my X5 works great. Even nicer than the built in nav unit. But, it wont grab a gps signal in the Z4. Tested it in other cars, still works great. But, in the Z4 nothing. Not even when the top is down. Just tapping into the collective knowledge of the "outpost". Holding it in my hand and walking up to the Z4 (while engine running) the gps signal dies when I get within 3 feet of the car. Any ideas?

It's allergic to Z4's. Just like us.

Yea, but the M is something special. Its a nice compliment to my 4.8is.

well, problem solved for the moment. Called Magellan again, they will replace the unit with a new one. Its too weird of an issue for them to try and solve without physical inspection of hardware.

Some cars have a special coating on the windscreen to block heat from a sunlight. That also blocks GPS signals. No idea if Z4M has that kind of windscreen, though.

Our cheapo Garmin nuvi, several years old, works in all of our cars...
The replacement should do fine.
