Yet another SelfLevel Susp. Inactive Thread.....Quick Question
Got to the restaurant and ate some dinner, came back out fired up the X and it was gone....didn't come back the rest of that evening. Next day, the same thing happened, I was driving along and the warning came across the dash....Got to the store and shut it off....restarted and it was gone I parked the X after that and hadn't drove it in a day or so, Long story short now the warning is on ALL the time and its been on for about 4 days now BUT the suspension is NOT any lower its even in the back and has stayed at the same height it always rides at so im assuming the air bags are not leaking. What could it be? level sensor(s)? I checked them and they looked ok I also checked the fuse in the rear for the self level it was also ok......... ~Thanks in advance i'm just trying to avoid taking it to the Stealership for diagnosis, The Bimmer dealer here is absolutely awful |

It sounds like its the module or some sort of electrical error as it was with me. Quick question, when it rains do you ever see rain dripping in your X? anywhere at all?

Hi,
As a matter of fact the first night the error occurred it was pouring down rain and I figured that was the cause of it......I have checked everything the spare tire well is completely dry as is the rest of the interior...no leaks It has been dry ever since and yet the error still persists... I even rechecked the spare tire compartment and surrounding areas for water again and everything is dry :-/ |

If I were you, I would do what I'm planning to do. I'm going to change over to coil springs in the rear to replace that awful rear self leveling suspension. It will cost $350 in parts, and probably $150 in labor, including having the dealership reprogram the computer to delete self leveling. Rather than spending $100 or so for diagnosis, and who knows how much more to fix it, this may well be the thing to do.
Thanks to MrBMW for bringing this to my attention! |

Check your battery voltage. Check your alternators charge. That's the first and cheapest route.

its an 00 4.4i never had this error pop up ever......I am located near Erie PA
I forget how to check the Alt output, cant I run the self test through the instrument cluster? I actually just got back in from checking it all out again, to confirm, the battery and spare tire well is completely dry no signs of water either I pulled the fuses, again, in the back and they are still fine.......Are there fuses somewhere else to check? The suspension is completely level and the height is correct :-/ |

There is a fuse in the glove box for compressor I believe. Get a voltmeter and put on dc and connect to jumper cables in the engine bay.
