Steel wheels?

My 2001 came with 17" wheels/tires. The wheels are beat up; paint is abraded, curb rashed, etc. Tires are... whatever "Summit" tires are. Never heard of that brand until I bought this thing last May.

Are there any basic-ass steel wheels that will fit this thing? Did BMW ever even offer those? I know earlier Euro base model3/5-ers had them with plastic covers.

Probably want to stay with the 17s. tirerack.com usually has steelies as winter packages but not for E53. I don't need winter tires here and I don't want to upsize either. 17s ride nice and handle ok.
