"Death" Sticker Delete

I was tired of looking at the "Death" sicker on my X5 sun visors. What a negative affirmation!

After trying a test site I found that paint thinner did not affect the material of my black sun visor cloth. Working slowly I soaked the sticker in small sections and scrubbed off the softened label with a 3M abrasive green pad. Taking my time to not abrade the visor cloth, each label took about 40 minutes. Leave the windows cracked for a day to disperse the smell.

Now I enter my X5 and gaze at the clean black headliner as BMW intended.

Looks great!

Great job! I hate to tell you this but I wanted to share it so others would benefit. I removed my airbag stickers by heating them with a hair dryer until the softened and using a tweezers to gentle pick at the edge until it was up. From there, the rest of it just peeled right off. It left a little adhesive residue that can be cleaned up with something like Goof Off. I left it as it was barely noticeable. Total time was about 5-10 minutes for each side.

Great initiative on your part and you got the job done.

Wow, you went all out. I left the others ones but hated seeing the ones on the sun visors. Luckily the ones they put on the sun visors come off easily. It's like a decal silkscreen that can be peeled off when heated. The ones Porsche put on the Boxster's visors are way harder to remove. Some resort to ordering European visors that don't have the so-we-don't-get-sued-for-your-own-stupidity stickers. I covered my Boxster ones up with black contact paper. I need help!

You sound OK to me.

I've always wondered at the logic that a car company would spend millions to design an interior, and then place labels everywhere. Too many lawyers?

Call me a fanatic, but I even cut off the small "flags" on the seat belts. I've been known to paint over the visor labels on other cars that were unremovable.

Well I just did the Death Sticker Delete. I do not know if the sticker is any different on the 02 X5 but the hair dryer method did not work. It did heat up the sticker but I could only get the corner to start to come up. I was getting quite frustrated!!!

The rubbing alcohol method worked like a charm!!! It disolves the sticker. I put on a liberal amount of it and rubbed gently in circles. Easy as hell. Slight discoloration where the stiker was but none from the rubbing alcohol on the visor area outside of the sticker.

I may see if my interior guy can do a spray on lil fabric dye on the visor to get it all one color. But it really is not bad at all. Might not evven worry about it. Much better than the ole Death Sticker!!!

Good job 2002Silver4.6is! The rubbing alcohol was a better idea than paint thinner. Enjoy the clean look of your interior without being reminded of your imminent demise.

I just did mine!! All I had to do was just pick a corner with my finger nail and slowly pull it off. Kinda like when you start peeling your skin after a sunburn, LOL!
