First Accident in the X

Ok, so I am really bummed. Pulling out of a parking lot last night a lady in a mini van decided to take a right from the left hand lane into the front of my X - draging the entire side of the mini van along my front bumper. No one was hurt so I guess its a good thing but I just wanted to cry when I picked up my front bumber and put it in the trunk. Oh, and remember guy's I am female before you make any comments about women drivers :p I was pretty impressed that other than a a big rash and a little shifting the X didn't really get dented - the entire side of the mini van was caved in, just shows how solid the X is.

My only question - Do you think there is a difference between a BMW certified shop vs any normal body shop? My uncle owns a body shop but when I called BMW last night they said to take it to a certified BMW shop Any suggestions?

If your Uncle's shop has a good reputation, has a painter that knows what they are doing, and they use OEM replacement parts then I wouldn't be afraid to use them. Check with the insurance adjuster to make sure they don't dictate where it must go for them to pay the claim.

Sorry to hear about the damage, but glad noone was injured.

Thanks UCrew. I own the vehicle so typically the insurance check just comes directly to me. My uncle does a great job, I just wasn't sure if there would be any warranty issues since the headlight & parking sensors will have to be replaced. He had fixed a Jetta for me once and alarm system never worked correctly again - I think the hood sensor had something to do with it.

Its an 02 - I was thinking about that last night. If the hood even had a scratch I think I would probably do it but I don't think there is enough damage to get it done without a huge additional cost. Maybe enough for angel eyes

Sorry to hear about the damage. As careful as we may be, it doesn't prevent other fools from hurting you!

I agree, there are way to many people on the road that are just oblivious to what's going on around them. I was very proud of myself for not yelling at the girl - turns out she had a two week old baby in the car - its her 3rd kid and she was only 23 - ouch!!! I am always cautions around mini van's - seems like the majority of drivers are busy with the kids instead of paying attention. I was sitting even with this gal - how she didn't see me is unbelievable - I guess she didn't even look.

You will have to change side fenders and hood if you want 2004+ OEM angel eyes. Different lights cut-out for post 2003 X. Good luck. http://www.xoutpost.com/showarticle-152.html

I may just have to take it to my uncle and see how much he can do with the money her insurance company gives me. Maybe there would be some mod I could do to make this a good thing Beings that my husband is not a car guy it would be the only way I could get anything done without him having a fit (that is why I got the 4.6 in the first place - he liked the 3.0 better - thinks mine looks pimped out )
