Porsche totalled: looking for a 2002-2003 X5 4.4 or 4.6is

Hi guys, I'm not an X owner yet, but if my Porsche comes back totalled,, I'll be looking for the following to tow my Porsche race car & commute in:

2002-2003 4.4 in white (do the white cars all have beige interiors??)

2002-2003 4.6is, red or maybe silver: no white in the 4.6is right? I love the grey interiors, but don't think the white or red come with the grey.

Are there things to look out for, packages to insist on or avoid, maintenance hiccups to ensure have been addressed?

Thanks on all your comments. I'll be looking for one with more miles on it so I don't have to finance anything, so my range is $15-17k-ish.

Mark

And to answer at least one of your questions, yes other color interiors are available on white. Grey is available, but black on white is my fav.

I think you could find a ~100K mile 4.6is at the upper end of your range. I think they are an excellent choice and really for the kind of money you are talking for a $70K vehicle it is hard to go wrong. I assume you know these are not honda's and will cost you some $$ to keep running. But if you find a well cared for example and you can do work yourself, the exposure isn't too bad. Trans is the biggest potential failure item. I think overall cost of ownership would be better than a similar miles / age Cayenne. And to match the driving experience the 4.6is is the way to go, IMHO.

Have you ever drove a Cayenne? Just to compare the two cars. And, the same question for the 4.4i, can you compare the 4.4 (my car) to 4.6? I'm very curious to know the main difference like performance feeling.

They are decently comparable in a way... BMW came out with the 4.4i X5 then Porsche came out with the Cayenne S to top it, then BMW put out the 4.6is to top that. (in 2002-2003 the 4.6is was the fastest production SUV/SAV in the market) Then the Cayenne GTS came out, then the 4.8is, then the turbo S now the X5M, etc. It has always been back and forth direct competition between the two, which is a great thing if you look where both are now!

Yay, I actually found the pertinent video!

I don't care for the Porsche's looks, though the GTS is nice, just not going to ride that depreciation train.
