Opinions, Please?

I've decided to do a few, minor aesthetic mods on my sapphire black X5 ('03, 3.0). So, here's what I'm thinking:

- aluminum running boards
- titanium grille
- titanium mirror rings
- titanium lift-gate handle
- tail pipe trim
- carbon fiber door pillar appliques

(Can you tell I'm at the dealer looking at the accessories catalog? )

The best thing is, aside from the RBs, all the mods are relatively inexpensive.

What do you guys think?

Juan

As for the rest, rock on!!

If you go with the titanium trim, I'll be interested in seeing pictures. I didn't think I'd like the look on a black X5, but will reserve judgement until I actually see one with them on.

Good luck!!

I think black looks better without the titanium trim. But everything else will look great on your car.

Thanks, guys. Yeah, come to think of it, the titanium trim may be too much on a black car. But I'll do the RBs, the exhaust tips and the CF appliques on the B and C pillars..

Titanium trim on a black x5 is a big contrast!May not do it any favours, but then again
it may well match the Aluminium RBs!Get the RBs first. What tailpipe trim do you prefer? Are you going for the 3.0i chrome.4.4 or 4.6/4.8?The 4.4 would look nice with your cars spec.

I was thinking about the 3.0i chrome tips. Do the 4.4 tips fit? if they do, you're right, they would look very sharp.

The 4.4 chrome tips are all individual,so they would not be a straight bolt-on!To be honest, they are also made of very weak material and when we do fit them on the X5 4.4 over the oem black tips ,we have to hammer them in very gradually so as not to bend them!!
On your 3.0 ,you will have to buy "Y"piece tips ,where on one side they fit your oem tip,on the other end they will show twin tips.See the sketched examples below. To fit these ,you need to weld them.

I think the obvious one are the running boards. That will look good and be functional. The Ti trim might look good with your black paint if you do the running boards and add bigger wheels too. It would look more complete that way. The exhaust tips are a nice area to change. I do not like the downward limpness of the 3.0 tips. Cut them and weld something like the 4.6/4.8 tip on there.
