Help with tailgate release

2006 X5 4.4 tailgate release will not open, no sound being made when switch in top of tailgate is pressed, I have tested all fuses in the rear cargo area, upper half of hatch opens fine with all methods, also the rear seat recline switchs at the tailgate do not work on either side, the switchs on the pillars by the seats work appropriately?
Help its a drag to load and unload with the tailgate closed!

In your manual there should be a guide for opening the gate manually.
Won't solve the problem but it should make it easier to load/unload.
