Sirius Install With NAVAnd (digital) DSP
I've scoured this site for install help with my 2001 X5 with CD Changer, Nav and DSP. All instructions mention extending the 6pin cable (after removing it from the CD Changer) to the Sirius receiver. There has never been a 6pin cable plugged into the back of my changer as it connects to my DSP amp via coax. How can I get around this? Please help, thoroughly confused. Thanks Last edited by bmikelson; 11-19-2005 at 09:26 PM. Reason: clarification |

And note that starting around model year 2003 BMW changed its DSP system from a "digital" interface to an "analog" interface, which means that it stopped using the coax connection and started using the 6-pin connector instead.

I purchased a new radio module from BMW this month. I know it's compatible with Sirius.
The analog DSP has me a little concerned. Does this mean I cannot install Sirius with my current digital DSP? Or is some sort of adapter available? Thanks much for your help! |

You might want to see if the DSP adaptor that is used by Dension for it's IceLink Plus product will work for your application. Tom G. would be a good source for this. - http://www.xoutpost.com/members/tom-g.html

You should be having a 6pin port that's open on the back of your changer. We have DSP+NAV on our 2001 X also, it has both mini-coax and analog ports. The 6pin port is open because like you mentioned, coax is the connection used.

I do have the port on the CD changer--I just don't see the 6pin plug/harness that should plug into it anywhere (which I need for Sirius).

One other tip for you on this is to be sure that your new radio module is in USA mode. Otherwise it won't recognize the Sirius module. To set it you have to access the Service Menu for the Radio Module using the following steps:
1. Turn the key to the "on" position (where it would be after starting the vehicle) 2. If the radio is on, turn it off 3. Turn the radio on 4. Immediatly push and hold the SELECT button until the radio serial number shows (5 to 10 seconds) 5. Use the < > keys to cycle through the menu To set your radio to USA mode, use the < > keys to cycle through the menu until you see the AREA selection. The radio will likely be set to NOAREA. Use the 1 or 2 buttons to switch to different areas-- set it to US. * Turn the radio off to save the settings * Turn the radio back on and use it as normal.
