It is where it said, just in that plastic box with the black lid held down with allen screws. It is pretty well sealed up in there.

ok, i saw that but it was on the pass side. i should have figured it was in there on not on the drivers side. i may take a peek in there and see if there is any dirt or water damage.

If there is any signs of water damage in the bottom of the box that would mean there is a clogged drain in that body cavity somewhere under the box... So if that is the case you may be removing the wheel liner to clear a drain. But that is very uncommon with the E53, I've only really seen that on the E65.
