From 19 inch to 17 inch

As stated above, I'm planning on putting a 17inch set wheels froma 3.0i X5 for my 2006 Sport Package 4.4i X5 but I was wondering if I will need some kind of spacers. Thanks in advance to all who replied. BTW the reason is just that my wife is complaining of the stiff ride.

Well you don't NEED spacers, but my 17's do look a bit narrow on the X5 IMO.

It would be strictly aesthetic, but seeing as how you are downgrading 19's to 17's due to comfort, I wouldn't bother spending money on spacers.

You can drop from 19" to 18" and get a lot of ride comfort back. I'm amazed every winter when I mount up my snows how much nicer the ride is with the 18" wheels and tires.

However, tire choice is a big factor too. On my Sport with the 19" wheels, swapping from the stock Michelins to my new Bridgestone Dueler HP tires, the difference in ride quality is significant. While the Diamaris tires were always harsh, noisy and lousy in the wet, the Bridgestones are comfortable, quiet, and nice in the rain, while being every bit as good at dry handling.

Agree with TowX...18s with the right tire, may soften up the ride enough for your wife's approval.
The 17s, if oe, also fit right on, and will soften it even more, though the "look" is not as cosmetic,
and most run 17s only as a winter tire combo.

Hmmm ... I'm thinking the 17s is the less expensive option!

However, I think you WANT to get another vehicle - for yourself!
