Trunklid with a Mind of it's Owne!

Just like it says. Opens randomly. Sometimes before you can get back in, after getting out to close it, it opens again.

Starting to get to be a real PIA.

Any quick tips on getting it to cease?

Thx.

Either the latch is faulty, the button is faulty, or the button is pressing in your pocket (I've done it before). It's probably the button on the latch.

Obviously search but check these two threads out:

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...trunk-lid.html

http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...g-problem.html

Check for corroded harness in the handle (due to water), chaffed harness at the top where the lid is hinged before replacing anything.

We had this problem in our 02 and it was the corroded handle problem.

Had to replace the whole plate awning.

Yes I really did just call it a plate awning.

As said above and in the linked threads the more common problem is the latch grip handle getting water ingress and corrosion, or the wiring harness getting chaffed in the top right corner.

My "plate awning" was replaced about a year ago, but I'll take it off and see what's going on in there.

I'll check that upper harness too, if I can.

It will go weeks with no issues, then it gets crazy on other days.

To check the harness you just open the upper hatch, pull the rubber harness out of the body at the top right, then pull the wiring out as much as you can to inspect it. It seems like it only wants to pull out about an inch, but if you work at it you can get another inch or two out and that is where you usually find the chaffed wires.
