Forever Black vinyl dye really worked. Thanks guys
Just wanted to drop a quick post and say thanks for steering me towards the Forever Black vinyl dye product. I had posted a few months back about how I'd scratched the hooey out of my vinyl trim trying to remove the billions of micro pits from years of ski trips. Once it dried "Aaaacckkk!". Scratched to heck.
So anyway, the Forever Black product reeeaaallly worked well. We've had one of the wettest springs in Oregon for a long long time. Tons of road spray.. several washings. The trim looks brand new. The scratched side of the car... not a single scratch. In fact, that side is uber smooth from the #0000 synthetic steel wool sanding. The other side is super black, but rough. I'm gonna sand that side too. Oh.. and I just now did the wheel wells. I figured, what the heck this stuff is pretty in expensive. It only took me 15 minutes using a kitchen sponge. OMG!! I had no idea how important that ultra black wheel well look in contrast to the paint was part of why I fell in love with the look of the X5. The X looks brand new. This product is so cheap, so fast to apply, and so effective and long lasting.. I can't recommend it enough. I might have to redo the car once a year after ski season.. I consider that low maintenance. Thanks for finding this product for me guys. |

Sounds like a great product.
My trim looks horrible (scratched, white, stained) Where can you get this stuff?

Anywhere. Try Amazon or a local Pep Boys, etc.

I would like to see your photos as well if you have any. I used tht stuff on my e36 years ago. I sort of remember it not looking very uniform. Almost like I tried to rub shoe polish on the trim or something. Obviously, that could have simply been due to user error on my part.
I came across the following thread a few months back where one of our members used 303 Aerospace protectant. His trim looked so good I ran out and bought some. I haven't had a chance to apply it yet, but look as his photos. Looks amazing. http://www.xoutpost.com/bmw-sav-foru...-pictures.html

1. it did not look uniform afterwards (which was your complaint about another product). I even tried multiple layers. and 2. it did not last very long. I have used Black Wow once so far. It went on really well; finish was very uniform and it has lasted much longer than the 303 Aerospace. I am now using up the 303 Aerospace bottle on things like hot tub cover, grill cover, etc. -- it's doing a good job on those covers. |

i always just used black leather shoe dye (on my 92 gti 16v's black trim) you find at any grocery store, it comes attached with a sponge so you dont have to get any on your hands.
i'd imagine it work the same on the trim of an X5...i'll try it out when i get home. edit: Forever Black VS Kiwi shoe Dye Contest on XC Trim - Volvo XC Forums looks like someone already compared using kiwi shoe dye vs. forever black |
